Towards the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, a transmission system based on graded-index plastic optical fiber (GI-POF) was commercialized for the new 4K8K satellite broadcasting this year. It is also the 10th year that KPRI (Keio University Photonics Research Institute) was established as a base for the research & development of GI-POF adopted by the “FIRST Program” of the Cabinet Office. On this occasion, it is our pleasure to announce that KPRI International Symposium entitled “Towards 8K, 5G Era” will be held on the first day of the International Conference on Plastic Optical Fibers (POF2019).
